Who we are
J.M.
Butler Builders Ltd was established by John Butler, who has nurtured the
growth of the company to incorporate his sister, Elisabeth Speight
as the company PA, brother Richard Butler as site manager, nephew Oliver
Speight as plasterer and son Paul as company architect and director, together
with a further fourteen tradesmen including joiners, plumbers, plasterers,
bricklayers and fully trained and heavy plant licensed groundwork staff.
Together we aim to continue to offer a professional service of the highest
quality standards in the industry whilst essentially remaining a friendly
and approachable family run local business.
History
Established in 1981 in York, J. M. Butler Builders Ltd has seen a consistent
growth in the construction industry across a number of fields including
residential (new build, conversions, and extensions), commercial, ecclesiastical
and leisure.
The successful completition of over one hundred projects across such a
broad range of fields demonstrates our versatility and commitment to our
clients, where J. M. Butler Builders Ltd have gained an enviable reputation
in our ability to provide the highest quality construction, together with
innovative yet practical design solutions, based on sound commercial sense
delivered on time and to budget.
The incorporation of an in-house architects department, Butler Design,
in 2004 has allowed the company to offer a fully integrated design and
build package or design only service, across the fields in which we have
demonstrated our success.
Directors
John
Butler - Managing Director
John began his career in the construction industry as a joiner for eight
years before entering managerial positions, beginning with the Department
of the Environment as Technical Officer overseeing multi-million pound
high security projects in Cyprus and the Middle East, and moving on to
becoming senior clerk of works for J. R. Harris Architects in Oman, where
he was responsible for the delivery of a number of high profile large scale
developments for clients such as Shell Oil Co. and the Sultanate of Oman.
With over eighteen years of contract administration experience behind
him, together with a HND qualification, John returned to the UK to set
up his own construction company, and now has over fifty years of experience
in the construction industry.
Paul Butler BA (Hons) B Arch PDAP RIBA - Director
Paul is a chartered architect elected to the RIBA in January 2000,
after qualifying from the Hull School of Architecture. His career began
in York at Briggs, Potts & Parry Architects where he worked on numerous
projects covering the fields of residential, commercial, medical, education
and ecclesiastical architecture. In 1998, Paul joined Avebury Projects
Ltd, based in Milton Keynes, as senior architect working predominately
on social housing developments in London, Milton Keynes and Birmingham.
In 2002, Paul joined Woods Hardwick Ltd, based in Bedford, as Associate
Director in the residential consultancy department, covering multi-million
pound, award-winning, residential developments across the Southeast in
both the private and public housing sectors. His client base included many
leading house builders such as Persimmon Homes, Bellway Homes and Taylor
Woodrow, and Paul was responsible for setting up partnering agreements
with Midsummer Housing Association and Aragon Housing Association.
Paul joined JM Butler Builders Ltd in December 2004 with the intention
of developing further the company's design and build department, encompassing
his experience in the residential sector from bespoke 'one-off' designs
to multi-million pound residential developments.
